Details and What-to-Bring
Unless otherwise noted, trips leave from and return to the Right Tree building

400 E. Third St, across the parking lot from Elk Rapid Bible Church; behind the high school soccer fields

All Right Tree activities are phone-free.  Staff will keep phones in a storage-box.  Participants may use their phones to call their parents as needed.  If you need to contact your daughter, please call a staff member at the numbers listed below.

Please recognize we are sometimes in areas with poor or no phone service.

​

Staff will take pictures and make them available for viewing and download

DO NOT BRING: laptops, ipads, headphones, earpods, music players or other electronic devices,   weapons of any kind, knives, lighters

What to bring

​

-clothes for 4 days

     they should be appropriate for the weather

     It is generally far hotter in St. Louis this time

     of year than in MI

-sleeping attire

-rain gear

-personal toiletries - toothbrush, toothpaste,

     shampoo, soap, personal hygiene

     products, etc

-all required medications

-there should be enough towels at the VRBO,

     but bring one if you'd like

-girls may be sharing beds -- bring a sleeping

     bag if it will make your more comfortable

-pillow if desired

-water bottle

-small backpack or fanny pack for carrying

    personal items

-knee pads are a VERY good idea for City

     Museum.  There is tons of crawling and

      climbing

-closed toed shoes will work best at City

     Museum

-$$ for souveniers if desired

     of, or the type of work we will be doing

     until a few days before the event

Backpacking the Porkies

July 9, 9am - July 14, 6pm

+ a mandatory organizational meeting

July 7, 1-5pm

 at the Right Tree building - 400 E. Third St, across the parking lot from Elk Rapids Bible Church; behnd the high school soccer fields.  Girls will be fitted for their packs, practice using all the equipment, pack meals and snacks and get their last minute questions answered. They take their packs home to finish packing personal items.  Parents are welcome to attend.

Suggested donation: $120

What to bring

 

-solid shoes - preferably broken-in hiking

     shoes or boots

-hat

-4 pairs of socks - preferably lightweight

     wicking socks

-1 sweater or sweatshirt

-rain gear - preferably jacket/pants style vs

     poncho style

-1-2 pairs of pants - something quick drying

-2 short sleeve shirts

-2 pairs of shorts - something quick drying

-1 long sleeve shirt

-at least 2 pairs of underwear

-swimsuit

-small or backpacking style towel

-flip flops or beach shoes

-backpacking pillow if desired

-personal toiletries - toothpaste,

     toothbrush, personal hygiene products,

     etc 

  -prescription medications

  -one set of clean clothes to wear on the way

     home that won't be carried in the

     backpacks

Remember...whatever you bring you will be carrying on your back the entire trip.   Pack as lightly as you can.  We can rinse out clothes on the trail

​

DO NOT BRING SCENTED SHAMPOO OR CONDITIONER, BODY WASH, SCENTED CREAMS OR SPRAYS OF ANY KIND.

All these activities are appropriate for beginners, but they must be good swimmers in water over their head.  Life jackets will be provided. â€‹

What to bring

 

​June 23

-swimsuit - you may want to wear it under your clothes as there are not many places to change

-beach towel

​-sweatshirt and/or sweatpants - it often gets cold out on the water

-small backpack for personal items

-warm clothes for the end of the day

STRANDED!

Aug 5, 9am-Aug 7, 4pm

Oleson Island is a private island in Long Lake owned by the Oleson Foundation.  They allow non-profits to use it.  There is a rustic building on-site the girls can sleep in.

​

This is 3 days of in-the-woods, rain-or-shine competitions, messy games and battles.  

​

We use the Crescent Shores boat launch

We will have a pontoon boat with us.

What to bring

 

-clothes for 3 days

     they should be appropriate for the

     expected weather including some warm

     enough to be outside at night 

     MOST OF OUR ACTIVITIES ARE DIRTY OR

     MESSY.  BRING CLOTHES, AND SHOES

     THAT CAN GET DIRTY AND MESSY

Suggested donation: $40

A day of tubing, hosted by supporters from Grand Rapids.  Beginners or old-timers...we can go as fast or slow as you want.  We will also have a pontoon accompanying us so girls can trade on-and-off of the tubing boat.

​

Please note we will depart from and return to the floating docks off Dexter St.
